Conflating Transphobia with Misogynoir Is Racist

Harriet Tubman and Sojourner Truth, two historical Black female figures whose lives are purposefully misrepresented by trans people and trans activists. |
Another day to live, another agenda to be pushed, and another discourse to be had. A couple of weeks ago, a British woman based in London by the name of Natalee B Fitness posted a video stating that her women’s only gym would be for patrons who are biologically female only. Trans women and their supporters erupted into anger over this announcement, and, as usual, when leftist Black women see males in distress, they run to their aid. Leftist Black women were acting like absolute fools all over TikTok and Twitter about this situation. They sat back and watched as Natalee B Fitness received racist death threats from trans activists all because she wanted to create a female-only space. They allowed nonBlack leftists to imply that Black women would somehow be affected by this female-only rule because believing Black women are “more manly” than white women due to us having more melanocytes in our skin is now a common theory accepted in leftists spaces. All of this vitriol towards Natalee B Fitness was permitted in the name of social justice and appearing morally superior to the “evil fascist Black women” who understand that your biological sex matters in certain circumstances. Leftist Black women essentially view themselves as Black males without penises and demand other Black women do the same. They hate when Black women not only acknowledge our womanhood but place it above participating in pointless race wars on behalf of men. This is the only logical explanation for why so many Black women in leftist spaces go out of their way to undermine their own womanhood in defense of “queer” males who could care less if they died tomorrow. However, I am tired of the disrespect being aimed at Black women who refuse to mule for men in the LGBT community, and I am writing this blog post to correct the myths that leftist Black women have been spreading about Black womanhood.
*What is misogynoir?*
Misogynoir is the hatred of Black females and what our bodies are capable of producing. A person must be female and of African descent to experience misogynoir. There are no exceptions. Black trans women can never experience misogynoir, because trans women are male. That is the basis for the hatred shown towards them. Furthermore, I want to emphasize that Black women face both misogyny and misogynoir. These are two separate things. Calling every instance of misogyny a Black woman faces ‘misogynoir’ is not helpful. Misogynoir is when a Black woman’s race is weaponized to enact misogynistic violence onto her. We see this come into play when doctors ignore the pain of their Black female patients during childbirth or how Black women’s mental health is never taken seriously. Labeling every instance of misogynistic language being thrown Black woman’s way as ‘misogynoir’ makes it seem as though Black women are a separate species from other women which, ironically, is misogynoir. As we witnessed with the “Millennials look younger than Gen Z!” trend on TikTok, Black women, just like all races of women, feel the misogynistic pressure to remain looking youthful, to shave, to wear makeup, to have children, to get married, and to conform to other stereotypical feminine beauty standards just like women all over the planet.
Moreover, a Black woman being called manly is not transphobia. ‘Manly’ is a gendered insult directed towards women of all races. Men do not call other males manly as it would not be seen as an insult but a rather endearing compliment. If racists thought Black women were men, they would not have created gender-specific racial slurs such as Shaniqua, welfare queen, and sheboon. If they thought we were men, they would not constantly juxtapose below-average (usually elderly) Black women next to young, above-average white women in the media. If they thought Black women were men, racists would not constantly compare Black women’s beauty to white women’s by posting an elderly Black woman next to a heavily edited photo of some random white female porn star. Men are never judged for their looks in this manner. When a racist white person calls a Black man a “boy”, they do not actually believe the fully grown Black man is a boy. That should be obvious. They are using this word to insult him. Everybody, including leftists, understands this. So when I see leftists pretend to not comprehend that racists calling Michelle Obama “Big Mike” or referring to Serena Williams as manly is misogyny, I get pissed off. There are three explicit forms of misogyny happening here. 1. Insulting a man’s wife or girlfriend to get back at him, 2. Mocking women who dare to be strong and look strong as well, and 3. The antiBlack misogyny (misogynoir) of referring to a Black woman as manly. These forms of misogyny have existed long before the modern day trans movement. Despite knowing this, leftists continue to spread the myth that racist white males who call Michelle Obama “manly” do not know that she is female. Racists do not actually believe Michelle Obama is a man. They are also not calling her “Big Mike” solely because of her Blackness. If that were the case, they would also be calling her two daughters males and have you ever seen anyone refer to Malia or Sasha as men? If they were solely attacking Michelle Obama because of her race, why do they not call Jasmine Crockett, who acts far more “masculine” than Michelle Obama, a man as well? Why did they not refer to Kamala Harris as a man during her presidency run? Why do they never refer to Barack Obama as a homosexual? Wow! It’s almost like they are being misogynistic and do not actually believe Michelle Obama is a man! Shocker! I know! More importantly, popular female celebrities, of various skin tones, like Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Rachel Zegler, Brigitte Macron, P!nk, Zendaya, etc. are called manly, yet trans activists do not jump to claim all white and Biracial women experience transphobia because a couple of celebrity women they share a race with were mocked for their looks. While Michelle Obama and Serena Williams may be Black women, they do not represent the experiences of all, or even most, Black women. The fact that racists refer to them as manly for being tall or muscular is literally proof of them confirming that they know these two women are women. Likewise, trans women are not called manly. They are referred to as male and told they cannot enter female spaces or specifically called men. Leftists going out of their way to incorrectly label the misogynoir Michelle Obama and Serena Williams experience as transphobia lets me know that they do not recognize the womanhood of Black women. It confirms that leftists do not actually care about the plight of Black women.
*What is transphobia?*
Transphobia, as it relates to trans women, is the hatred of gender-non conforming males. The majority of people do not view trans women as the same as biological females. Whether trans activists accept this harsh truth is none of my business. In some countries, trans women are viewed as effeminate gay males. In others, they are seen as sexual predators with a crossdressing fetish. The majority of violence enacted against trans women is rooted in homophobia and the belief that men are not allowed to express femininity in any way. However, this is not an issue for women to care about or include in discussions about women’s rights. This is a problem for males, regardless of how they identify, to solve. When Trans women are being made fun of for having extremely broad shoulders, a prominent Adam's apple, harsh browbones, or masculine jawlines, they are not experiencing misogyny or being held to misogynistic beauty standards. The men making fun of them do not view them as actual women. They are being insulted for being effeminate males. Being mocked by other males because you are a visibly feminine male should not be conflated with Black women who are mocked by both Black men and racists for our natural African female features. Denying trans women access to female spaces is not the same as denying Black women access to said spaces. We are female and entitled to female-only spaces that are offered to the public, trans women are not. I have never once heard about the experiences trans women go through and thought it sounded similar to what I or any Black woman has experienced. Trans women, in my opinion, share common ground with feminine gay males not Black women.
It is important to remember that a lot of trans women are former incels who used to spend a fair amount of time scrolling neo-nazi 4Chan forums. To them, womanhood is cosplaying as an underaged Japanese schoolgirl from an anime TV show or looking like a white porn star with fake boobs, fake butt, and bleached blond hair. They do not recognize any other form of womanhood. Being a woman to most trans women is a sexual fetish. They do not recognize the plight of Black women because our plight cannot be sexualized. Female genital mutilation, child marriage, religious extremism, Black femicide, and poverty are not subjects trans women can use to satisfy their sexual fantasy. These are things that only or mainly happen to females, and a biological male will never actually care about the plight of women. It is not far-fetched to say most trans women have kept some of their male entitlement and still hold onto the racist beliefs they came across when scrolling alt-right websites online. When trans women insist that Black women experience transphobia, they are saying the quiet part out loud. They believe that our skin tone makes us manly. Despite Black women and East Asian women sharing many of the same facial features (flat noses, full lips, neotenous features), only one group gets told that they are feminine while the other is constantly told their hairlessness, almond eyes, and youthful brown skin make them “masculine”. When trans women or their supporters claim Black women are deemed masculine because of our features, I want all of you reading this blog post to ask them to name which specific feature they are referring to. Then, ask them if they believe East Asian women, who most likely have this feature as well, are masculine too. Watch as they fumble trying to explain why an East Asian woman's full lips and wide button nose is feminine while yours is masculine. Mind you, many of these East Asian women have noses much wider than Black women before they get plastic surgery. Trans people and trans activists believe a Black woman’s beautiful brown skin and coily hair makes her masculine. They are no different than the racists who refer to Michelle Obama as “Big Mike”. Most trans women are white males who used to scroll nazi forums. Are we surprised? These are the individuals leftists want women to accept into female spaces, and for some odd reason, many leftist Black women with low self esteem are rushing to validate these former incels. How can you, a Black woman, sit there and let someone gaslight you about your own beauty? Many individuals, including trans women themselves, pay thousands of dollars for features commonly found on Black women from several different ethnicities, not the other way around.
*Are Black women being masculinized?*
One unpopular opinion that I hold is that Black women have not historically been masculinized. I did not even start seeing that sentiment until around 2018 when leftists decided to start disrespecting Black womanhood in order to validate the nonexistent womanhood of males. Historically, Black women have been sexualized and dehumanized. We have been raped, forced to breed children, colonized, and sold for labor by various races of men, but masculinized? I cannot find a single historical artifact proving this claim. I see no essays from European or Arab slave traders referring to African women as manly or considering them to be male. Additionally, if Black women are truly tired of being masculinized, I suggest we stop masculinizing ourselves first. Stop viewing yourselves as Black males without penises. Stop protesting on behalf of Black males (ex: the BLM protests) who call you everything but a child of God. Stop rejecting the little bit of feminine Black female representation we have. Stop critiquing high fashion African models for their beauty in front of nonBlack people. Stop trying to be “diverse” when it comes to our media representation when other races of women only put their most attractive on display for the world to see (ex: the average white woman is brunette and not skinny, yet they get to be represented by Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter). Stop claiming Black women are “naturally obese” (again, this rhetoric does nothing to actually help fat Black women in their day-to-day lives). Stop calling pretty Black women “eurocentric”, especially in front of nonBlack people. This type of rhetoric emboldens trans women to claim Black women, on average, have more “masculine” features and gives white women credit for our unique African beauty. Stop claiming Black women experience transphobia. Stop acting as though the average Black woman has masculine features (again, we are female with regular female sex traits). Stop attacking Black women who embrace aesthetics outside of the “IG Baddie” aesthetic thrusted upon us by Black males (ex: Black SJW’s claiming the clean girl aesthetic was “racist). Stop harassing Black women like Clarke on TikTok just because they are able to market themselves well in spaces outside low-income/urban Black communities. Stop talking down on natural hair in public or on social media. Stop repeating false statistics you heard online from Black incels. Stop spreading false narratives about your dark skin because you refuse to stop engaging with colorist Black males. Stop acting as though being a Black woman is a disability. Most importantly, stop letting narratives that you have not experienced control how you move through the world. Until Black women stop doing most of these things I just listed, I really cannot take any conversation about Black women being masculinized seriously. You have Black women all over Twitter and TikTok screaming about how undesirable dark skin and 4C hair are and how every single Black woman gets misgendered because we all apparently have masculine features. Why do liberal/leftist Black women do this? Why do you promote negative imagery of Black women rather than just retweet and reposting all of the beautiful dark skin Black women with 4C hair that are praised for their beauty (ex: Lupita). What do you gain from pretending everyone thinks every single Black woman on this planet is drop dead ugly? There are too many leftist Black women invested in attaching Black womanhood to undesirable traits and then complaining when we are stereotyped as undesirable or masculine because of their low self-esteem. You cannot disregard your womanhood constantly but then complain when you are masculinized. If Black women insist on acting like pitbulls or guard dogs on behalf of males, whether that be on behalf of Black men, nonBlack Men, or trans women, do not act surprised when you all are treated like the masculine guard dogs you are behaving as. The main reason why I see certain Black women being masculinized is because they constantly disregard their womanhood, make themselves public enemy number one, insist on fighting with men verbally or physically in public, and attach themselves to extremely unpopular anti-female movements. In the rare moments I have seen a Black woman being masculinized, it had nothing to do with her skin tone or features and everything to do with her obnoxious, antisocial far-leftist behavior. What frustrates me the most about this female-only gym discourse is how leftist Black women have now emboldened large swaths of white people to feel comfortable making racist statements such as “Well Black women have masculine features too!” “Well if Black women can be women, so can trans women!” These nazi-adjacent race science statements would have made any person lose their job pre-2010. Now they are seen as acceptable because of leftist Black women giving nonBlack leftists the greenlight to use our identity to spread an agenda, and Black women, let me tell you truthfully, this is a major reason why you are masculinized. It’s not your looks or how you behave, it is your narcissistic need to masculinize yourselves on behalf of demographics that could give less of a damn about you because you think it makes you morally superior.
Public support for trans rights has decreased significantly over the years for various reasons. Personally, after being exposed to the racist beliefs of not only trans women, but their supporters as well, I can say without a doubt that they do not give a damn about Black women. As much as trans women like to bring up Michelle Obama and Serena Williams being masculinized, I have never seen them actually defend these women when they are being viciously attacked by racists. So what gives? Why are so many leftist Black women determined to make themselves public enemy number one and align themselves with an extremely unpopular movement that pushes racist rhetoric about their own womanhood? Conflating misogynoir with transphobia makes it impossible for Black women to talk about our plight and that seems to be exactly what both leftists and conservatives want: for Black women’s voices to never be heard. Any agenda that seeks to conflate the unique experiences of Black women with that of gender non-conforming males needs to be ignored, reported, or shut down immediately. The colonization of Black womanhood should not be permitted. With Trump in office and the future of America unknown, I would advise all Black women to separate themselves and their image from any leftist movement. To the Black women who ignore my advice and continue to disregard their womanhood on behalf of trans women, do not be surprised when you are treated like the males you are being attack dogs for.
You spoke nothing but the truth!

ReplyDeleteHard agree.
ReplyDeleteMales accessing women's spaces and taking women's awards is not a win for black women in any way, shape, or form.
Great article!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for speaking about this. I just spoke about this on my Tumblr and someone reported it and had my blog taken down lol. They are hell bent on silencing Black women.
